Family And Friends Gather At Prince's Paisley Park Estate To Honor Icon's Life

MINNEAPOLIS (CBSNewYork) -- Family and friends gathered Saturday at Prince's Paisley Park estate for a memorial following the music icon's death on Thursday.

His publicist said it was a "private, beautiful ceremony to say a loving goodbye."

Prince's girlfriend Demaris Lewis and close friend Sheila handed out mementos to fans. The boxes contained vintage tour memorabilia and no box was the same.

"It just shows that he loved us all and they are appreciative of our support," fan Keara Thompson told CBS2's Brian Conybeare.

Prince Nelson Rogers died just two days ago. His publicist said Prince's remains have been cremated. His cause of death is currently unknown and will likely remain a mystery for weeks.

It's also unclear what will happen to his estimated $300 million estate. It includes thousands of unpublished recordings kept in a vault. There's reportedly even one with Miles Davis.

Minnesota law dictates the closest blood relative should inherit everything if there is no will.

To help Prince's fans get through this thing called life, some AMC movie theaters are showing his iconic movie Purple Rain throughout the weekend.

"I went and saw Purple Rain in 1984 and it was a life changing experience and I still can't believe he's gone," fan Aisha Steiner said.

A handwritten note left at a growing memorial for Prince outside of the famous downtown Minneapolis club First Avenue says it all, "You will be missed."
