Community Advocate Calling For De Blasio To Step Down Amid Federal Corruption Investigation

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork)- A community advocate is calling for Mayor Bill de Blasio's impeachment amid a federal corruption investigation into his fundraising.

Community advocate Tony Herbert announced plans to join thousands of New Yorkers for a rally outside of City Hall in the coming weeks, demanding the mayor to step down immediately.

Just yesterday, CBS2 reported the scathing report claiming de Blasio violated campaign finance laws in the 2014 state senate races.

"We are concerned that you're leading this city in the wrong direction," Herbert said. "Because you cannot honestly represent this city having these criminal investigations on your back."

The lead investigator for the Board of Elections looking into the 2014 fundraising efforts of the Bill de Blasio administration believes there was a '"willful and flagrant"violation of campaign finance laws during that period of time.

Sources told CBS2's Marcia Kramer that Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance now has in his hand a scathing report on Mayor de Blasio's efforts to influence the 2014 senate races in a move to defeat Republicans by funneling money to Democrats using an apparent back channel scheme.

A mayoral spokeswoman said the administration is confident its efforts were appropriate and that the office will fully cooperate with the investigations.
