Cops: Man Stabbed Multiple Times In Upper East Side Road Rage Incident
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are looking for a driver who they say stabbed a man multiple times Saturday night in a fit of road rage on the Upper East Side.
According to the NYPD, just after 11 p.m., a man driving a blue Ford with Rhode Island license plates got into an altercation with the driver of a Toyota on East 61st Street near York Avenue, CBS2's Magdalena Doris reported. The driver of the Ford stabbed the other man six or seven times in the torso before driving away, police said.
The 45-year-old victim climbed back into this car and tried to drive himself to a hospital, but crashed into a parked car about 20 blocks away on East 76th Street near Madison Avenue, investigators said. The victim was rushed to NewYork–Presbyterian Hospital and is in stable condition, Doris reported. Police are still looking for the suspect.
It's unclear what exactly led the dispute between the two men.
A witness to the bloody fit of road rage said she still can't believe the violence she saw.
"It was something from a horror story," she told CBS2's Valerie Castro.
The woman said her cab pulled up behind the vehicle that stopped in the middle of the street at around 11 p.m. She and the cab driver watched as the man got out and walked over to the blue Ford parked on the side of the road. She said the driver of the Ford got out and started stabbing the other man in the chest repeatedly.
"The guy that opened his door got out and was stabbing him right in the middle of his chest. Then he came back over to us and was in complete shock," the witness said.
The victim walked over and stood in front of the hood of the cab. The woman said she didn't see any injuries until he pulled off his t-shirt.
"I was screaming, I was scared, and there was just blood pouring out everywhere," she said.
Pedro from Brooklyn told 1010 WINS' Roger Stern he's sympathetic because he was attacked in a road rage incident several years ago.
"I do think about road rage a lot," he said. "I hate it. I hate it. It's horrible. It gets people in a lot of danger."
Detective canvassed the areas Sunday looking for surveillance video of the suspect.
