Mets' Cespedes Day-To-Day After Getting Knee Drained

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- New York Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes is day-to-day after getting his right knee drained.

MLB.com reports Cespedes' injury occurred April 13 against the Miami Marlins when he leaped into the stands in an effort to catch a foul ball. A bruise around his right knee lingered and fluid developed.

"At the moment, we're looking at it on a day-to-day basis," general manager Sandy Alderson told MLB.com. "Fortunately, we have the depth that we anticipated we would need, and so we've been able to survive his absence over the last several days. And I'm sure we'll do our best to survive over the next two or three."

Cespedes missed his third straight game Monday against the Reds. Alejandro De Aza started tonight in center field, while Juan Lagares started the previous two games.

"There are bruises you get where there's a buildup of fluid," manager Terry Collins told MLB.com. "That can be very painful in that part of the leg, near the joint. That's why he was doing all the limping. So with that fluid coming out of there … after tonight it will be up to how he feels. But if you would have seen the swelling, you would understand why he had no chance at playing."

The $27 million man is hitting .288 with five home runs and 14 runs batted in so far this season.
