Trump: Bernie Sanders Should Run As An Independent

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP)-- Bernie Sanders should run as an independent and ditch the Democrats, according to Donald Trump.

Trump took to Twitter early Tuesday afternoon suggesting that Sanders has been "treated terribly" by the Democratic party regarding delegates and other circumstances.

Democrats are competing for 384 delegates in Tuesday's five primaries, while Republicans have 172 delegates up for grabs.

Sanders says his campaign is "handicapped''  because the five states don't allow independents to take part, but that he plans on fighting through until the very end.

The senator recently said that while he feels the Democratic party hasn't been completely fair to him, that that's the way it is and that his campaign is "taking on the establishment."

The primaries could bring a sweep for Trump -- but his Republican rivals are already looking ahead, with a strategy aimed at dividing up some of the anti-Trump vote.

Clinton is already looking past Sanders, barely mentioning him during recent campaign events. Instead, she's deepening her attacks on Trump, casting the billionaire businessman as out of touch with Americans.
