No. 5 Subway Line Service Resumes In The Bronx Following Partial Platform Collapse

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Transit officials say the No. 5 subway line resumed service Wednesday in the Bronx after part of a subway platform that was under construction collapsed.

Service between Eastchester-Dyre Avenue and East 180th Street was suspended Tuesday night following the collapse.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority said a portion of the island platform slab on the elevated Eastchester-Dyre Avenue subway station gave way. Firefighters believe the weight of construction machinery caused the area to fall.

No injuries were reported.

The MTA said repairs to the platform were made overnight.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
