Autistic Man, Who Disappeared From Field Trip In Brooklyn, Found Safe

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The NYPD has located a 24-year-old autistic man who disappeared from a park in Brooklyn.

Michael Yam went missing from a field trip to Prospect Park around 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Police said he was found safe around 8:30 a.m. Thursday on Henry Street in Brooklyn Heights.

Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said training is being enhanced within the NYPD as to how officers should handle these types of cases.

"Individuals who may be autistic, how do you approach them, understanding that you need to deal with different types of response to different types of drugs that people take. The autistic issue is one of increasing concern for the department in terms of how to correctly deal with it," Bratton said.

Yam was taken to a hospital for evaluation, but appears to be fine.
