NYPD Continues Hunt For Brooklyn Hit-And-Run Suspects That Left 51-Year-Old Woman Dead

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork)-- Police continue to search for the two men responsible for crashing a vehicle and then fatally injuring a female pedestrian while harming others along the way.

The two suspects were in a stolen gray sport-utility vehicle, which hit a red car then crashed onto the sidewalk, killing the 51-year-old woman and injuring her 57-year-old husband and the driver of the other vehicle that had been hit, WCBS 880's Rich Lamb reported.

"That car was stolen out of the 67th Precinct on Friday night. The keys were left in the ignition, someone had ducked inside a grocery store there in or around Avenue D and the car was taken at that point," NYPD Chief of Detectives Bob Boyce said.

The victim, identified as Tan Chooi Peng, passed away Sunday evening, officials confirmed.

A witness, who asked not to be identified, described the scene.

"I heard a big bang and when I came outside I saw the van run into the fence. Two young guys, early 20s, ran out the van and ran down the street," the witness told CBS2's Hazel Sanchez Sunday. "There was a lady on the ground. She was bleeding. She was unconscious. It was her husband– he was bleeding also and he was crying out for help."

The witness called 911 to help the injured couple and the driver of the car.

Boyce said the NYPD has images from the car rip-off. He added the car was gone over by the crime scene unit and they have some forensics to move forward with the investigation.

Police released surveillance video asking the public to help identify three individuals in connection with the incident.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
