Yankees' Cashman On WFAN: 'I'm Getting Tired Of Watching This'
NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Brian Cashman is not sugarcoating it: The Yankees have been brutal thus far.
In an appearance on WFAN on Monday, the Yankees general manager was candid about the sad state of his team and hinted that if things don't turn around soon, he'll be making some personnel moves.
"I'm getting tired of watching this," Cashman told WFAN's Mike Francesa. "It's got to stop, and we've got to play up to our abilities. And if not, yeah, I'm going to have to do things that aren't part of the game plan."
After being swept at Boston over the weekend, the Yankees are 8-15 and in last place in the American League East. New York has lost six of its last seven games.
"It's just got to turn sooner than later," Cashman said. "And it's caused by all aspects of the roster right now."
The GM said the Yankees' offense has been the biggest culprit -- the team is 14th in the American League in runs scored. But Cashman said it's also concerning that the Yankees' starting pitching has been shaky despite being entirely healthy.
"This roster's got to heal itself first and foremost, I think," Cashman said. "If we want to be what we're capable of being, it's got to be with the players we currently have, and then if there's some alternatives ... ."

One alternative could mean more playing time for outfielder Aaron Hicks, which might seem ironic considering he's batting .077. But Cashman said Hicks has had quality at-bats and is experiencing some hard luck that could turn around soon.
Cashman said he couldn't say the same about third baseman Chase Headley, who is hitting .156 with no homers and two RBIs.
"He's not impacting the baseball at all," Cashman said.
Cashman said he never envisioned the lineup would experience so many woes.
"This is an offense that ran up the second-most runs scored in the American League last year and now has a healthy Tex (Mark Teixeira) back in, because we finished without Tex (last season), and we added (Starlin) Castro into the mix as an upgrade at second and acquired (Aaron) Hicks," he said. "So you don't think that you're going to being struggling at all."
If Yankees fans are looking for a silver lining, Cashman asked the team's media relations department over the weekend to research how often the Yankees have gone through 22-game stretches with an 8-14 record in recent years. It found that the Bronx Bombers did that three times last year -- a season in which they earned a wild card berth. They also did it twice in 2012 and four times in 2010 -- the Yanks reached the ALCS both years.
The bad news?
"It certainly doesn't feel like that watching this team play right now," Cashman said. "We need it to stop, and we need to start playing baseball the way we're capable of and impact that win column."
