"As we head into the summer travel months, it is very important for travelers to Zika affected areas to take precautions to avoid mosquito bites," Department of Public Health Commissioner Dr. Raul Pino said in a statement. "This is particularly critical for pregnant women or women planning to become pregnant, who should postpone travel to these areas if at all possible."

So far, six people have tested positive for the virus in Connecticut, including another pregnant woman. Danbury resident Sara Mujica, 17, was in Honduras when she found out she was expecting.

Health officials say the two pregnant patients will be monitored for the duration of their pregnancies. Researchers fear that Zika causes microcephaly, a serious birth defect in which a baby's head is too small, as well as posing other threats to infants of pregnant women infected with the virus.
