Family Continues Desperate Search For Missing Columbia Student Nayla Kidd
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The search continued Saturday, for a Columbia University student who has been missing for more than a week.
Her family has come together in a desperate attempt to find her.
As CBS2's Magdalena Doris reported, family members of Nayla Kidd were searching the streets of Manhattan and working to get the word out that the 19-year-old is missing.
Kidd's mother LaCreis flew in from Kentucky on Friday night. It's been 9 days since anyone has seen Nayla.
"For her to be missing right now is very heart wrenching," LaCreis said.
According to investigators, the sophomore engineering student was last seen leaving a gathering at a dorm on May 5. She may have taken the 1 train to her apartment on Broadway.
She missed all of her final exams, something that has raised a red flag for her family.
"This is not Nayla. She prides herself on doing her very best in school," LaCreis said.
On Friday, Aysha Curtis stood near Columbia hoping someone would recognize her cousin from a flyer.
"We're really missing Nayla, and she's here on full scholarship so she wouldn't just go missing," Curtis said.
Police sources said that all signs of Nayla have halted. Her Facebook has been deactivated, credit cards cancelled, and her cell phone has been shut off.
There is no way to know if Nayla disconnected these herself, or is someone else played a role.
"It's been a while since she's caught up with any of her friends, so it's definitely worrisome," Noah Zinsmeister said.
Along with flyers posted throughout the neighborhood the university has sent out a school-wide alert asking anyone who sees Nayla to call campus safety and police as her family searches for answers.
