Mets' Collins: Matz Slated To Return To Mound Friday
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Mets are planning to send Steven Matz to the mound Friday against the Milwaukee Brewers, manager Terry Collins said Tuesday.
Matz missed his scheduled start Saturday in Colorado with a sore elbow. He visited doctors at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan on Monday, and they found no structural damage, team officials confirmed.
Collins said Matz would throw Wednesday and then pitch in a game Friday for the first time since May 9.
Matz is 5-1 this season with a 2.86 ERA. He has struck out 35 batters and walked just eight. The 24-year-old is the first Mets pitcher in history to win nine of his first 10 career decisions.
Collins also said that first baseman Lucas Duda was held out of the lineup Tuesday against the Washington Nationals because of a sore back.
Also, the Mets have called up infielder Matt Reynolds from Triple-A Las Vegas and optioned left-hander Sean Gilmartin.
