CBS Adds New Series, Brings Back 21 Favorites In New Primetime Lineup

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- CBS is going for laughs next season, scheduling four comedies each on Monday and Thursday -- with three of them newcomers.

Also on tap for fall is a trio of new dramas, with one of them, "Bull,'' starring Michael Weatherly, who's exiting the network's "NCIS'' after 13 years. The other new dramas are a reboot of 1980s hit "MacGyver'' and a medical drama, "Pure Genius.''

The new fall sitcoms are "Kevin Can Wait,'' starring Kevin James; "Man with a Plan,'' with Matt LeBlanc; and "The Great Indoors,'' headlined by Joel McHale.

Set for mid-season are the crime thriller "Training Day'' and the legal drama "Doubt,'' starring Katherine Heigl. CBS hits "Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders," "The Amazing Race," and "Undercover Boss," are also slated to return throughout the season.

The network is bringing back 21 series, including hits like "Blue Bloods," "Madame Secretary," "Scorpion," and celebrated sitcoms "The Big Bang Theory," "2 Broke Girls," and "The Odd Couple" --" a newer sitcom starring Matthew Perry which debuted on CBS in February 2015.

Reality television hits like "Survivor" will also be returning, as well as the critically-acclaimed news segment "60 Minutes."

NFL Thursday night football is also slated to kick off its third year of broadcasting on Sept. 15.

CBS announced that the "Big Bang Theory" will move back to Monday nights following the premiere of Thursday night football later this year, creating a comedy-stacked Monday primetime lineup along with "Kevin Can Wait," "Man With A Plan," "2 Broke Girls" and "The Odd Couple." The show will return to its regular Thursday night programming on Oct. 27, along with "The Great Indoors," "Mom" and "Life in Pieces."

Video previews of new shows will be available today on CBS's YouTube channel after 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

CBS' 2016-17 lineup will be officially unveiled for advertisers Thursday afternoon.
