Paramus Psychic Accused Of Conning Woman Out Of $41,000

PARAMUS, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A New Jersey psychic was accused Thursday of scamming a customer out of $41,000.

Holly Stanley, 25, of East Rutherford, was arrested in Paramus and charged with theft by deception, based on events that happened between March and May 2016.

Paramus police detectives received a complaint from a 30-year-old woman from Glen Rock, who said sometime in March, she had begun meeting with Stanley at her office at 114 S. Farview Ave. in Paramus.

The victim was seeking help with personal matters and agreed to let Stanley give her a crystal ball reading for $100, police said.

After the reading, Stanley told the woman there were evil spirits affecting her life, police said. The woman first gave Stanley $5,000 to assist in removing the spirits, and Stanley went on to ask for $36,000 more, police said.

The victim handed over the money, police said.

Finally, on April 7, Stanley said still more money was needed and asked for $90,000, police said. The woman did not give Stanley the money this time, and instead became suspicious and reported her to police, the department said.

Stanley was released on $5,000 bail after her arrest on charges of theft by deception, police said. Anyone with more information on the case should contact the Paramus Police Department at (201) 262-3400.
