White House On Brief Lockdown After Secret Service Shoots Man Nearby
WASHINGTON (CBSNewYork/CBS News/AP) -- The White House was placed on a brief lockdown Friday afternoon after a man was shot by the Secret Service.
Sources told CBS News the suspect -- identified by multiple law enforcement sources as Jesse Oliveri of Ashland, Pennsylvania -- walked up to a White House checkpoint on West Executive Drive, raised a gun, and pointed it at an agent shortly after 3 p.m., CBS2's Alice Gainer reported.
The uniformed Secret Service agent then fired at the man, CBS News reported. A gun has been recovered, CBS News reports.

District of Columbia Fire and EMS spokesman Doug Buchanan said one patient was taken to George Washington University Hospital in critical condition.
A D.C. police spokesman said the Secret Service was investigating.
The White House grounds were shut down to pedestrian traffic, locking staff members and reporters indoors.
Secret Service agents were seen walking the White House lawn with guns drawn, and snipers were posted on top of the building's roof. Reporters who were at the White House were ushered inside.
The lockdown was lifted at around 4 p.m.
The president was not on premises. He'd left two hours earlier for an afternoon round of golf.
Vice President Joe Biden is inside the White House compound, CBS News reported.
There was no word late Friday on the suspect's identity or a possible motive. Sources told CBS News the man was still alive after he was shot, and statements he made suggested he had wanted to die in a kind of suicide by cop.
