Mom Of Giants' Eli Apple To Join ESPN's 'Sunday NFL Countdown'

BRISTOL, Conn. (CBSNewYork/AP) — The mother of Giants first-round pick Eli Apple will make an NFL debut of her own this fall.

ESPN announced Monday that Annie Apple would join "Sunday NFL Countdown" as a contributor. She will offer player profiles and other stories for the pregame show.

Annie Apple is a blogger who gained widespread attention with her social media posts on draft day last month. Her cornerback son was drafted 10th overall out of Ohio State.

Among her observations was questioning why dessert wasn't served at a reception. That led to Commissioner Roger Goodell sending her brownies.

She also famously refused to let her son wear to the draft a Rolex he was offered. She said she told her son: "Dude, you're an unemployed college dropout. You will not be on TV with a Rolex.' So we decided if he needed to know what time it was, he could just look at his phone. I bought him a portable charger."

Annie Apple later wrote a first-person guest column for Sports Illustrated and appeared on several ESPN shows.

"I am beyond excited to be joining the ESPN family and quite honestly, happier than a Kardashian in an NBA locker room," she posted on Twitter on Monday.

Senior coordinating producer Seth Markman says that "when we met with her in-person at ESPN, we were blown away by her relatability, her sense of humor and just how unafraid she is to speak her mind."
