LISTEN: Despite Weekend Sweep, Francesa Says Mets Still Have Plenty Of Issues

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- The Mets just swept the Milwaukee Brewers, and they head into a three-game series at Washington 1½ games out of first place.

But there are plenty of reasons for concern, WFAN's Mike Francesa said Monday.

"The Mets have some issues right now," Francesa said at the start of his show. "Obviously (Matt) Harvey's an issue. You haven't loved what you've seen from (Jacob) deGrom. And catcher, third base, first base are issues right now.

"What do they do with the catching situation? (Rene) Rivera can't hit, but he's their best catcher. (Kevin) Plawecki really had a tough homestand. And (Travis) d'Arnaud, who knows?"

Francesa noted that the Mets didn't exactly coast through their weekend series against the Brewers.

"They had to work really hard (for the sweep)," he said. "They had to overcome some shaky pitching. They had to overcome some really bad offense at times. But they were able to just find a way to grind, and that's what they did."

On a positive note, however, Francesa praised Yoenis Cespedes, who is batting .298 with 14 homers and 35 RBIs.

"Cespedes is having an MVP season, no question about it, playing on a level with anybody right now with his power and being that bat you can count on day in and day out," Francesa said.
