New Jersey Organization Donates Specialized Strollers To Disabled Children

FRANKLIN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A New Jersey non-profit is donating specialized strollers worth thousands for disabled children because insurance wouldn't cover the cost.

CBS2's Vanessa Murdock reported the specialized strollers were given to 8-year-old Isabelle, 8-year-old Jude and 5-year-old Jackson at the Black Bear Golf Club in Franklin.

"I'm very excited to get this stroller," Tim O'Brien, Jude's father, said.

With this new stroller, there's no need to transfer Jude into a car seat. It can be wheeled right into the vehicle and secured.

"It will help so he won't be so congested in this one and a little more durability for his weight," Josh Winchell, Jackson's father, said.

The strollers were all donated by Let Them Be Little X2. Jeff Leider started the foundation in honor of his sons Jason and Justin who both were born with Hunter syndrome, a rare genetic disease. It's debilitating and potentially deadly.

Leider's goal is to help other families like his.

"Just to make their lives a little easier," Leider said.

The organization holds fundraisers throughout the year to raise money. Former New York Giant Stephen Baker, a big supporter of the group, took part in Wednesday's golf outing.

"I was a much better football player than I was a golfer, but it's all for a great cause," Baker said.

Each stroller is modified for the child's needs and costs between $3,000 to $5,000.
