2 Weeks After Fire, NJ Dinosaur Park To Open Memorial Day Weekend

LEONIA, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- New Jersey's version of Jurassic Park is still on track to open this weekend following a fire that destroyed a 90-foot-long lifelike robotic dinosaur earlier this month.

The Field Station: Dinosaurs exhibit is moving to Overpeck County Park in Leonia after operating in Secaucus since 2012, NJ.com reported. The dinosaurs had to leave after last year to make way for the construction of a high school.

Its Memorial Day weekend opening comes weeks after its animatronic Argentinosaurus dinosaur was reduced to a charred skeleton. Its creator says a welder was putting finishing touches on it when a spark started the fire.

The park plans to rebuild the 90-foot-long Argentinosaurus, which was the longest animatronic dinosaur in the world. It also had to be repaired after falling over during Superstorm Sandy in 2012.

The park's remaining fleet of 31 dinosaurs is returning for the new season in a large, open field.
