Long Island 9/11 Memorial To Get Restoration Makeover Amid Several Signs Of Decay

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. (CBSNewYork)-- The Nassau County 9/11 Memorial in Eisenhower Park is only 10 years old, but it looks like in all that time no one has paid any attention to it.

The monument has several signs of decay including peeling paint, missing tiles, broken floodlights, tattered flags, and overgrown weeds.

State Assemblyman Charles Lavine said $125,000 in state funds will be used to restore the memorial, 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria reported.

"I am more concerned with making sure that this really beautiful and moving part of the park is restored to the grandeur that it deserves," he said. "All those nearly 3,000 Americans who perished on that day are martyrs to democracy the same way as our service related military casualties."
