Wedding Cruise Ship Runs Aground During Reception

BOSTON (CBSNewYork/AP)-- It was a rocky start to marriage for a bride and groom in Boston Saturday night.

Wedding reception guests were in for a surprise when the vessel ran aground off Georges Island in Boston Harbor.

The Majesty, a Boston Harbor Cruises vessel, became stuck around 7 p.m. Saturday. There were 152 people aboard, including 137 passengers. No one was injured.

"It lasted like an hour. It was like an hour and then there was a big crash. The next thing you know the Coast Guard, everyone's moving," groom Jamie Stern said. "Kids are crying. People screaming. It was crazy."

A Boston Harbor Cruises spokeswoman told The Boston Globe that all passengers were safely transferred to the Asteria, another Boston Harbor Cruises vessel.

Coast Guard Petty Officer Andrew Barresi says five boats operated by the Coast Guard, state police, state environmental police and the Massachusetts Port Authority helped transfer the passengers.

It's unclear why the ship grounded. The bride and groom said they hope they get a refund, but for now they're headed to Brazil for their honeymoon.
