HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Long Island were searching for a suspect who threw a gas station attendant to the floor and beat him in Hempstead back in January.

Around 6:20 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, the suspect walked into the Apple Green Gas station at 797 Peninsula Blvd. in Hempstead and presented a credit card that he planned to use to buy gasoline and other items, Nassau County police said.

The clerk questioned the suspect about the validity of the credit card, and the suspect refused to present identification, police said.

At that point, the suspect got angry and went behind the counter, and picked up the clerk, slammed him to the floor, and punched him in the head and body, police said.

The suspect drove off with the woman in a dark blue Nissan Xterra, police said.

As a result of the attack, the victim suffered a fractured skull, torn ligaments to his knee, and pain to his ribs, arms and ankle, police said. He was treated at an area hospital.

The suspect was last seen wearing a red winter hat, black jacket and tan pants.
