NYPD Releases Surveillance Video Of Suspect Wanted In More Than 20 Robberies Across Long Island, Queens

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The NYPD has released new video of a knife-wielding robber targeting a Subway restaurant in Queens.

CBS2's Magdalena Doris reported that investigators believe the man in the video struck nearly two dozen locations across Long Island and Queens.

The surveillance video shows the suspect covered in a bandana and hoodie and threatening Subway employee John Kwon who was working alone in the Forest Hills, Queens, restaurant Friday night.

"Just empty the cash register and that's it," Kwon said. "I'm not risking my life for $300."

Police have connected the suspect to this same scheme 22 other times.

"He walks in and produces a large butcher's knife that he uses for each one and puts it back into his pant leg when he leaves," NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said.

Police said the suspect targets shops near highways.

He has hit up 17 chain stores in Long Island, like Dunkin' Donuts, Carvel and Subway, and now five Queens stores have been targeted, leaving employees feeling helpless.

"I would leave the job, but I need money because I'm a college student right now and just paying for college is difficult," Kwon said.

There was a new break for police in this latest robbery as a witness described the suspect leaving in a grey Honda as officers will now be patrolling for that vehicle.

"We have a very large deployment of plainclothes and uniform officers at these access points onto the expressway going forward," Boyce said.

Subway employees will still be watching out while the suspect is still on the loose.

"We've just to all got our part and make it a bit safer, and make it harder for this guy to do whatever he's doing," Anthony Malave said.

Police from Queens, Nassau and Suffolk Counties are now working together to try to catch this serial armed-robbery suspect.
