Thousands Attend New York City's Celebrate Israel Parade

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The damp and dreary weather didn't keep thousands away from New York City's Celebrate Israel Parade on Sunday.

"We're glad to be here, proud to show our support for Israel," Adam of Nassau County's Hebrew Academy told 1010 WINS' Roger Stern. "Nothing can keep us away and nice to see a lot of other people are of the same mind."

With Israel facing condemnation by its critics, supporters said it is vital to be here.

"They have the right to exist and it's important to support justice," one supporter said.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio are marching in the parade.

Organizers said they expected 40,000 marchers to take part in the parade.
