Report: Jason Pierre-Paul Planning To Do PSA Warning About Dangers Of Fireworks

Bryan Altman

With the anniversary of the Fourth of July accident that left Jason Pierre-Paul's hand maimed and put his football career in jeopardy rapidly approaching, the Giants' star defensive end is reportedly planning on taking to the airwaves to help ensure that what happened to him doesn't happen to anyone else this July Fourth.

According to a report from Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News, Pierre-Paul is planning on doing a public service announcement before the Fourth of July to get the message out about the dangers of playing with fireworks.

From the New York Daily News:

"Two sources familiar with his plans told the Daily News he is planning to do some type of public service announcements in the coming weeks as a way to get the word out that he's serious: Fireworks are dangerous. Kids shouldn't play with them."

Earlier this year Pierre-Paul donated $20,000 to NewYork-Presbyterian's burn center and has spent more time speaking with burn victims and has also donated his money as well.

The Daily News also made clear that Pierre-Paul is far from the only person in America that has had a fireworks-related injury on the Fourth of July.

From the New York Daily News:

The Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates that 230 people per day will end up in the Emergency Room with fireworks-related injuries in the month surrounding July 4th. That's nearly 7,000 people (based on a 2014 study). The injuries range from small burns to far more serious injuries like the ones to JPP. During the one-month study in 2014 there were also nine deaths.

While Pierre-Paul's injury was unfortunate, it's clearly motivated the Giants star in a very positive way. Now, he's helping make a difference off the field as well and can hopefully prevent others from making the same mistake that he did.

Bryan Altman is, for some reason, an unabashed fan of the Rangers, Jets and Mets. If he absolutely had to pick a basketball team it would be the Knicks, but he'd gladly trade them for just one championship for any of his other three teams.
