Connecticut Gov. Malloy's Approval Rating Hits All-Time Low

HARTFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy's popularity rating has hit a new low, with a majority of registered voters disapproving of how the Democrat has managed the state's economy, jobs, budget and taxes.

A new Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday shows 24 percent of registered voters approve of how Malloy is handling his job, while 68 percent disapprove. It's a drop from Malloy's prior lowest rating of 32 percent in October.

Poll director Doug Schwartz says Malloy's numbers appear linked to the voters' dissatisfaction with the state's economy.

"We're seeing an all-time low rating, not just for the governor, but for the way people feel things are going in the state of Connecticut. Only 28 percent think the state is moving in the right direction," Schwartz told WCBS 880's Fran Schneidau.

Connecticut Democrats say Malloy has "an exceptionally difficult job'' and has made "hard and often painful choices'' during tough fiscal times.

The survey of 1,330 voters has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 2.7 percentage points.
