Mets Trade For Kelly Johnson -- Again

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Mets pulled off their second annual trade with the Atlanta Braves to acquire utilityman Kelly Johnson on Wednesday.

New York will receive Johnson and an undisclosed amount of cash, while the Braves will get minor-league pitcher Akeel Morris, the teams announced.

Last July, New York traded for Johnson and his Atlanta teammate Juan Uribe. Johnson played in 49 games with the Mets, hitting .250 with five homers and 13 RBIs.

Johnson returned to the Braves as a free agent in January and was hitting .215 with one homer and 10 RBIs this season.

His verstality should help out the banged-up Mets, especially at the corner infield spots. First baseman Lucas Duda and third baseman David Wright on the disabled list for weeks.

Morris, who is from the U.S. Virgin Islands, was a 10th-round draft pick by the Mets in 2010. The 23-year-old right-hander has spent this season with Double-A Binghamton. He played in one game for the major league Mets last season, allowing five runs in two-thirds of an inning.

According to MLB.com, Morris was the 16th-ranked prospect in the Mets organization.
