Food Truck Lunch: Chevre Truffle Burger From Frites 'N Meats

Perry, the founder of New York Street Food, brings you his latest review on New York City street food.

Summer makes us think of barbecues, and barbecues make us think of hamburgers & hot dogs. When we crave a hamburger, one of our go-to places is the Frites 'N' Meats truck. They also serve probably the best fries from a street vendor in NYC.

While there are plenty of options to choose from, we almost always go for the Burger of the Week, which heaps loads of toppings on the burger for one price. During our recent visit, the BOTW was the Chevre Truffle Burger for $10, and we also got an order of fries for $3.50.

The Chevre Truffle Burger is not only topped with the namesake goat cheese (chevre), but also includes cheddar cheese, applewood smoked bacon and truffle butter. Wow! The fixings would make a great sandwich all by themselves, but the fact that they come on top of a fat, juicy Angus burger makes it even better.

As we said, the fries at Frites 'N' Meats are among the best from a NYC street vendor. So many food trucks serve wimpy fries, but here the fries are nice and crispy and salted just right. The frites are served in a cone, just like in Europe, and a Dum Dum lollipop is included for dessert, a nice touch.

We would be remiss not to mention the bun, which comes from Balthazar Bakery. It's soft and tasty, but is hardy enough to handle all of the ingredients without falling apart.

The only drawback at Frites 'N' Meats is the wait. They're one of the more popular food trucks, and cook everything from scratch, so a 15-20 minute wait after ordering is not unusual. To mitigate the wait, you can call ahead and pre-order at 917-292-9226.

You can find the Frites 'N' Meats truck on Twitter here, on Facebook here, and their blog is here.

The Chevre Truffle Burger is not for the faint of heart (literally), but it has a bold taste, and you only live once. Why not enjoy it!
