Suspect Took Shirtless Selfie On Stolen iPhone, Police Say

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are searching for a man who took a selfie after allegedly stealing a woman's iPhone on the subway.

According to police, the suspect grabbed the iPhone out of the 30-year-old woman's hand while on a Manhattan-bound "L" Train early Thursday morning.

The suspect then left train at the Morgan Avenue subway station, police said.

A photo believed to be a shirtless "selfie" taken by the suspect was later found posted on the victim's iCloud account.

Commuters on the subway had no sympathy for the suspect, CBS2's Steve Langford reported.

"Like most criminals, he's not the brightest kid on the block," one commuter said.

"He's an idiot," chimed another.

"He shouldn't be stealing cell phones, but if you are going to steal 'em, don't put it out there for everybody to see 'em."

Police describe the suspect as in his 20s and around 5'7" tall. He was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and greet camouflage pants.

The selfie found on the woman's iCloud account can be viewed above.

The NYPD is asking anyone with information about this incident to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous.
