Police: Woman Charged With Heroin Possession, DWI After Wrong-Way Garden State Parkway Crash
TOMS RIVER, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A woman was charged with driving while intoxicated and heroin possession Sunday, after allegedly driving the wrong way on the Garden State Parkway and slamming into a car.
New Jersey State Police and the Ocean County Prosecutor's office were investigating the crash late Sunday.
Around 2:45 p.m., state troopers were called to milepost 80.8 on the southbound Garden State Parkway near Toms River. They learned that Brenda Haase, 37, of Forked River, was headed north on the turnpike in a Hyundai Accent when she lost control of the car, went over the median, and hit a Nissan Maxima head-on in the southbound lanes, state police said.
The driver -- John Delaney, 52, of Toms River – and the passenger – a boy – were both taken to Barnabas Health Community Medical Center in Toms River with minor injuries, state police said.
Haase was found to be in possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia, state police said. She was charged with assault, possession of heroin, possession of a hypodermic syringe, possession of drug paraphernalia, and DWI, state police said.
Additional charges may be coming pending investigation, state police said.
