7 Arrested For $1 Million Heroin Ring From Pittsburgh To Nassau County

MINEOLA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Seven people were arrested for their alleged involvement in a massive heroin ring operated from Pittsburgh to Nassau County.

Officials said more than 3.4 kilograms of heroin were seized with a street value of about $1 million. Along with the heroin, there was a stash of fentanyl that could've been combined with it, making a potential overdose especially deadly, 1010 WINS' Sonia Rincon reported.

The ring was allegedly run by 53-year-old Victor McKeever. Officials said that McKeever allegedly directed the ring from his home in Pennsylvania, using the other suspects as local distributors of heroin.

Six of the seven defendants have been arraigned on multiple charges after a four-month investigation, police said.

The other suspects are Tariq Johnson, 39, of Englewood, New Jersey; Mark Mahabirsingh, 34, of Queens; Donna Peart-Martin, 51, of Freeport, New York; Shawn Patterson, 49, of North Charleston, South Carolina; and Anthony Greer, 25, of Pittsburgh.

"Crime has no boundaries and this case is a great example of how partners in law enforcement utilized talented personnel and resources to bring this defendant to justice. This recent extradition should serve as a deterrent to criminals everywhere as we at the Nassau County Police Department are committed to working with our fellow law enforcement partners to ensure public safety," said acting Nassau County Police Commissioner Thomas Krumpter.

Each suspect faces at least 20 years in prison if convicted.
