Jets' Revis Plans To Keep Playing 'Until The Wheels Fall Off'
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis insists he's unfazed by critics who suggest he might have lost a step, saying he plans to keep playing "until the wheels fall off, hopefully."
The seven-time Pro Bowler had offseason surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right wrist, but said during minicamp Tuesday that it is healing well and he expects to be ready to participate at the start of training camp late next month. He has been unable to practice so far this offseason because of the wrist, which was injured early last season.
Revis remains one of the top players at his position. He turns 31 on July 14, and some fans and media suggested he might no longer be an elite cornerback.
"If that's how people feel, that's fine," he told reporters. "It's not going to hinder what I do or bother what I do or change who I am."
Last season, Revis played in 14 games, intercepting five passes.
Meanwhile, Revis joined teammates including Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker in expressing his desire to see the Jets re-sign free agent quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. The team and Fitzpatrick have been at an impasse in contract talks for months.
"Ryan is a big part of our success. He definitely is," Revis said Tuesday, ESPN reported. "He came here, he's broken a bunch of records in the quarterback category. And he was a big part of our offense. This has been going on all offseason and we're waiting for him to come back and play."
