2 Men Found Dead After Sunset Trip On Long Island Sound Turns Fatal

HARTFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork)-- A day at the beach turned tragic for some Connecticut residents who were swept across the Long Island Sound.

Delfina Reynoso and her 8-year-old daughter are lucky to be alive after the kayak they were in was windblown across the Long Island Sound Sunday from Madison, Connecticut to Orient, Long Island.

Two male companions, one in their kayak, the other a paddleboarder, did not survive the accident, WCBS 880's Mike Xirinachs reported.

"There was a mother and the 8-year-old and they're both okay," Coast Guard Spokesman Lt. Matthew Richards said.

The mother and daughter were found shivering on the beach. The male 31-year-old kayaker was found nearby dead from exposure. A Coast Guard search later turned up the body of the 44-year-old paddleboarder.

Authorities said an Orient resident heard cries for help and notified police.
