Man Shot In Throggs Neck In Possible Road Rage Incident

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A man was shot in the elbow Wednesday afternoon in the Throggs Neck section of the Bronx.

The incident took place in front of 841 Revere Ave. – on a quiet, residential block – at around 1:40 p.m.

Police say the victim, a 54-year-old man, was shot in the elbow, and two suspects drove off in a red Dodge Caravan. There were earlier reports that the victim was also shot in the head, but police later said he was struck in the head by an object.

Nick Gradanski lives across the street from the scene. Initially, he didn't think twice.

"I was like OK, it's a pop. Is it a loud muffler or whatever -- what is it?" he told WCBS 880's Peter Haskell.

Police say they are investigating the possibility the shooting started as a road rage incident. Neighbors on the brick home block told CBS2's Ali Bauman they would not have expected such an incident around their homes.

"I was on my way home from work, and to like see, to hear and see this happen is – wow, no one is safe and whatnot. Thank God the police are out here keeping everything and checking," said area resident Jason Feliciano. "For this to have to happen, it's messed up. It really is."

Police late Wednesday afternoon were checking for evidence at a gold car parked in front of 832 Revere Ave. Detectives said the homeowners at the driveway had never seen the car before.

The victim was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center and is expected to survive.

Police late Wednesday said the victim was still in surgery and they had not been able to interview him fully, and thus, they were not 100 percent sure road rage motivated the incident.
