Dustin Johnson Finally Bogeys, Trails Landry By 1 Stroke At US Open

OAKMONT, Pa. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Dustin Johnson finally made a mistake.

After playing 27 holes Friday without a bogey, Johnson had to pitch out of a bunker after an errant tee shot and made 5 on the par-4 first hole. His first bogey of the U.S. Open dropped him to 3-under par, a shot behind first-round leader Andrew Landry.

The dropped shot probably felt even worse because Johnson missed some short birdie putts on the front nine that would have given him the lead by himself.

Johnson appeared ready to win last year's Open after hitting his second shot within 15 feet on the final hole. But his putt slipped by the hole, and he missed the one coming back for a heartbreaking loss.

Earlier Friday, Landry had to take only one shot to set an Oakmont record at the U.S Open.

Landry rolled in a 10-foot birdie putt on the ninth hole to finish his rain-delayed first round at 4-under 66. In 10 majors at Oakmont in stroke play, Landry's score was the lowest for an opening round.

That was due mainly to nearly 3 inches of rain that softened the course and allowed for reasonable scoring.

Tied with Johnson for second place at 3 under par was Lee Westwood.
