NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Actor Anton Yelchin was killed in a tragic accident on Sunday, June 19 when his Jeep rolled and pinned him against a mailbox pillar and a security fence at his Los Angeles home.

Yelchin, 27, was best known for portraying Chekov in the rebooted Star Trek movies.

1: Yelchin was born March 11, 1989 in St. Petersburg, Russia.

2: He an only child. His parents are professional figure-skaters Irina and Viktor Yelchin.

3: Yelchin's parents fled to the United States as political refugees when he was a baby.

5: Yelchin reprised his role as Chekov and stars posthumously in "Star Trek Beyond" due to be released July 22.
