Mets' Bartolo Colon Leaves Game After Taking Line Drive Off Right Hand
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The New York Mets just can't catch a break lately.
Mets pitcher Bartolo Colon was forced to leave Tuesday night's game against the Kansas City Royals after four pitches when he took a line drive off his right hand from leadoff hitter Whit Merrifield.
The Mets said Colon suffered a right thumb contusion and that X-rays were negative.
Hansel Robles came in to relieve Colon.
Colon was actually bumped up a day to start Tuesday night in the opener of the two-game series. Noah Syndergaard was pushed back one day and will start Wednesday afternoon.
New York announced the switch about five hours before Tuesday's game, saying the change had previously been made but the team had not yet alerted the media.
The move means Syndergaard is now lined up to pitch during next week's series at first-place Washington. If he had started Tuesday, he would not have been scheduled against the Nationals.
