Long Island Hit-And-Run Victim Speaks As Search Continues For Driver
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- An Army veteran is speaking out a month after he was injured in a hit-and-run crash on Long Island.
On May 25, Robert Boutin, 29, was struck by a maroon-colored car at Long Island Avenue and South 19th Street in Wyandanch while riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle to work.
Boutin was just a mile from his home when the car made an illegal U-turn and crashed into him, police said. The vehicle then fled the scene.
"I remember leaving my house, saying goodbye to my wife, taking off down Long Island Avenue and the next thing I have a memory of is waking up in the hospital," he told 1010 WINS.
After the crash, Boutin was in a medically induced coma and still requires multiple surgeries.
The driver remains at large.
"We're at a month now and he's just out there living his life," said Boutin, who spent five years in the Army and served a tour in Afghanistan. "As far as I'm concerned they're a coward, you tried to kill me, so I'm not really going to take kindly to that."
Police have released a picture of the vehicle involved in the crash. Investigators believe the 2006-2009 Toyota Corolla has substantial damage to the passenger side fender and front.
