Reports: Carmelo Anthony Commits To Playing For Team USA In Rio

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Carmelo Anthony will be an Olympian once again.

The Knicks star has committed to playing for Team USA in the Summer Olympics in Rio this summer. Yahoo's The Vertical was the first to report the news, citing sources. Newsday confirmed the report with a league source.

It will be Anthony's fourth appearance in the Olympics. He has already won two gold medals and a bronze.

In March, Anthony told reporters he was looking forward to competing in Rio.

"From a morale standpoint as a player, if you've been through the things I've been through the past couple of years, you want to feel what that success feels like," he said. "You want that success. So the Olympics for me is great timing, especially coming off this season and injuries, and mentally it's good for me to get out there and feel what that feels like again."

While Team USA's roster is not set, it will be missing some of the NBA's biggest stars. Stephen Curry, Russell Westbrook, James Harden, LaMarcus Aldridge and Chris Paul have all opted out, and LeBron James said Wednesday he doesn't think he will play, either.

Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Kyle Lowry and Paul George are among those expected to join the team.
