Joe Girardi On WFAN: Playoffs Are Within Yankees' Reach

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Joe Girardi says he still believes the Yankees can be a playoff team -- if they can be more consistent.

"I look at where we're at, and with all the issues that we've had, whether it was the offense for six weeks, whether it was the starting pitching, the middle relief, the different things that we've had, we're only six games out with a ton of games (against) the teams that are in front of us," the Yankees' manager told WFAN's Mike Francesa on Friday. "So it's in front of us. But the thing that we have to do is we have to become much more consistent and stay away from losing streaks of three and four and five games and just put together some good streaks and we'll be right there."

One question Girardi would rather not be asked is whether the Yankees should become sellers as the trade deadline approaches.

"When you start asking those questions, those aren't questions that you really want to hear because it means you're not where you're supposed to be," he said.
