FBI, NYPD Searching For Upper East Side Attempted Bank Robber
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The FBI and NYPD are searching for an attempted bank robber.
Authorities said the man tried to rob the Citibank at 1330 First Ave. at the corner of East 71st Street in the Upper East Side on Tuesday morning.
Investigators said the suspect followed employees into the bank when they were arriving around 8:30 a.m., pulled a gun on them, and forced them to lock the bank doors.
The suspect then forced the Citibank employees to the back of the bank and demanded that they opened the vault. However, the robber was unable to get any money or valuables from the vault and fled the scene.
No employees were hurt.
The suspect is describes as a black man, with a medium build, and a mustache and a possible mole on his right cheek. He was wearing a brown fedora-style hat, a dark charcoal suit, dark blue shirt and brown suede shoes.
The suspect should be considered armed and dangerous. If anyone knows anything about the robber or the attempted robbery, they are asked to call the New York Office of the FBI at 212-384-5000, or the NYPD Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS (8477). The FBI is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest in this case.
