Long Island Primary Race Between Throne-Holst, Calone Too Close To Call

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- It appears it's going to take absentee ballots to decide the outcome of a hard-fought Democratic primary on the eastern end of Long Island.

The first congressional district race between former Southampton town supervisor Anna Throne-Holst and venture capitalist David Calone was too close to call Tuesday night.

Throne-Holst was leading Calone by only 29 votes in what was Long Island's most expensive primary, with each candidate spending about $1 million, WCBS 880's Mike Xirinachs reported.

There are more than 1,600 absentee ballots to be counted, which will happen next week.

The winner will take on Republican first-term Rep. Lee Zeldin in November.
