Tugboat Partially Sinks Near Tappan Zee Bridge

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Two people were rescued Thursday after a tugboat partially sank near the Tappan Zee Bridge.

The Coast Guard said the tug, which was towing a barge, started taking on water around noon, WCBS 880 reported. It's still not clear what caused the boat to sink.

Palisades Interstate Parkway Police also responded to the scene.

Two people on board the boat were rescued. They were not hurt.

Police say a salvage operation is now underway.

In March, a tugboat crashed into a stationary construction barge near the Tappan Zee Bridge and sank, killing three crew members.

The boat was one of three tugs escorting a barge carrying a crane down the Hudson from Albany to Jersey City.
