VIDEO: Officers Rescue Man Threatening To Jump From Manhattan Bridge

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork)-- New York City Police Department officers rescued a 22-year-old man who was threatening to jump off the Manhattan Bridge Wednesday morning.

Officials said they responded to a call of an emotionally disturbed person and found the young man on the outermost ledge, located outside of the safety fence.

The Emergency Service Unit also responded to the call and began a conversation with the man. ESU officers spoke to the man for about 30 minutes while officers began to cut a hole through the fence.

The officers were able to bring the 22-year-old to safety without injury. He was transported to a local hospital for help and evaluation.
