Parents Throw NJ Teen Rainbow-Themed Surprise Party After She Comes Out To Them

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A New Jersey teen has gotten a surprising response after telling her parents she's gay: a rainbow-themed surprise coming out party.

The 17-year-old said that she came out to her parents after they brought up her sexuality, and she later took to social media with the announcement.

Her parents told her Saturday they were planning an early Fourth of July party and sent Kinsey to the mall with her cousin. She returned home surprised to find the house covered in rainbow decorations along with a rainbow-themed food spread, complete with a multi-color cake.

The story has gone viral after she tweeted some photos of the party. She says she's glad her family has been able to offer the gay community "a little joy and hope.''
