Chris Christie Chats Up Noah Syndergaard On Amtrak Train
NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie got to talk baseball on a train with a pitcher from his favorite team.
Christie was heading from Trenton to Newark on Amtrak's Acela on Wednesday night when he spotted New York Mets ace Noah Syndergaard in the car.
Christie and "Thor" sat next to each other before Christie left the train, where a reporter peppered the head of Donald Trump's transition team with questions about the presumptive Republican presidential nominee's choice for vice president.
Christie has been mentioned among the possible candidates, although it appears Trump has settled on Indiana Gov. Mike Pence.
Christie's visit with Syndergaard is just the latest in many public sports moments for Christie. He played in the WFAN "True Blue" charity softball game at Yankee Stadium last year and also ruffled some constituents when he loudly cheered on the Dallas Cowboys, hugging team owner Jerry Jones after a comeback win against the Lions. Christie also rooted for Notre Dame this year in Philadelphia during the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament.
The governor also has filled in as a co-host on WFAN's "Boomer & Carton" show from time to time.
