Ginsburg Regrets 'Ill-Advised' Criticism Of Trump

WASHINGTON (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg says she regrets her "ill-advised'' public criticism of Donald Trump.

Ginsburg came under attack in recent days following a series of interviews in which she called Trump unqualified to be president and joked that she would move to New Zealand if he won.

"On reflection, my recent remarks in response to press inquiries were ill-advised and I regret making them," Justice Ginsburg said in a statement issued by the court on Thursday. "Judges should avoid commenting on a candidate for public office. In the future I will be more circumspect."

On Wednesday, Trump tweeted that Ginsburg should resign.

"Justice Ginsburg of the U.S. Supreme Court has embarrassed all by making very dumb political statements about me,'' Trump wrote. "Her mind is shot -- resign.''

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said it was "totally inappropriate" for Ginsburg to criticize Trump.

The New York Times also wrote in an editorial that "Ginsburg needs to drop the political punditry and the name-calling."
