NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — Left-hander Anthony Kay, selected by the New York Mets with the 31st overall pick in the amateur draft, has agreed to a minor league contract with a $1.1 million signing bonus.

The agreement, announced Wednesday, was $872,100 under slot value.

Kay, 21, was 9-2 with a 2.65 ERA for the University of Connecticut this year. He was drafted by the Mets in the 29th round three years ago.

Kay played at Ward Melville High School in East Setauket, the same school that produced current Mets pitcher Steven Matz.
