Police: Stamford Hospital Hampered Homicide Investigation Of 2-Month-Old Baby Girl

STAMFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork)-- Police in Stamford said a hospital's delay in reporting an infant's head injuries is hampering their homicide investigation.

Police said it's obvious a crime occurred in the death of the 2-month-old girl who was rushed to Stamford Hospital from a daycare center on Tuesday afternoon, WCBS 880's Fran Schneidau reported.

Lieutenant Diedrich Hohn said that the child suffered severe trauma to the head, yet police were not notified by the hospital for more than two hours after the baby was admitted for treatment.

"The two-hour delay really put us behind because everyone could concur and talk among themselves and get the story straight before we even get a hold of them," he said.

In a statement a spokesman for the hospital said, "In grave situations it's the life of the patient that is most important."

Hohn said doctors and emergency care told him that the baby was dead within 20 minutes of the baby arriving to the hospital and that police should have been notified immediately.
