MLB Executive, Spouse Among 3 Killed In Upstate NY Plane Crash

ALBANY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP)Major League Baseball says one of its longtime employees and her husband were among the three people killed when their small plane crashed in upstate New York last weekend.

An MLB spokesman said Tuesday that Susanne Hilgefort, 48, and her husband, Michael Mydlarz, died Saturday when the plane crashed about 30 miles west of Albany.

Hilgefort was MLB's senior director of broadcasting business affairs and was based at the commissioner's office in Manhattan. She had worked for MLB since 1994.

"Susanne was a warm and caring person who lived life to the fullest," MLB commissioner Rob Manfred told MLB.com. "She was an avid world traveler who loved spending time outdoors. When indoors at 245 Park, Susanne always brought joy to those around her with her enormous smile, energy and positive outlook day in and day out. She made a lasting contribution to our game and will be sorely missed."

The single-engine plane Hilgefort and Mydlarz were in crashed into a wooded area soon after taking off from a private rural airport. A third person died, while a fourth is in a New York hospital burn unit.

Authorities haven't released the victims' names.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
